United Horse Coalition Seeks Nominees for Unity for Horses Award

The United Horse Coalition (UHC) is seeking to honor an active member who has taken the initiative to work towards programs that promote responsible horse ownership and breeding, or programs that support horses at-risk or in transition and their owners. The Unity for Horses Award will be presented during the American Horse Council’s National Issues Forum in Washington, D.C., on June 09, 2024.

This will be the second year the award is being given. At last year’s event in Denver, Colorado, UHC’s Director Ashley Harkins awarded Days End Farm and their Maryland Equine Transition Service (METS). Days End Farm provides a perfect example of an owner assistance program using METS, utilizing a hands-on approach within the industry to ensure that owners are able to find responsible options and assistance programs when in need. Their mission supports the mission of the UHC.

“I had a hard time choosing one that stood out from the many organizations that are a part of the United Horse Coalition who are so deserving of this award,” says Harkins. “I’m looking forward to seeing who we can honor for 2024.”

The UHC’s Unity for Award recognizes an individual or organization that meets the following criteria:

  • An active member of the United Horse Coalition for two or more years, in good standing.
  • Taken the initiative to be involved in, and work towards programs that promote responsible ownership and breeding, and/or programs that support horses at-risk or in transition and their owners.
  • Used their industry relationships to work collaboratively to further strengthen and promote the mission of the United Horse Coalition.

Nominations are due April 1, 2024, and may be sent to the attention of Julie Broadway at jbroadway@horsecouncil.org
